Adeline Wong Lin Yien 2301987: Assignment 5

Secret Door In My School That Leads To A Candy Wonderland… or a Sugary Nightmare?

It all started when I stayed late after class, starving but determined to find recyclable materials to finish my model before going to eat. My stomach growled like an angry beast as I wandered the empty hallways, searching for scrap pieces of cardboard, plastic, or anything I could repurpose.

I made my way to the storage room, where stacks of unwanted boards and old models were piled haphazardly. As I pushed some aside, I noticed something unusual—hidden behind the mess was a wooden door.

I frowned. Had this always been here? I reached out, my fingers brushing against the aged wood. The moment I turned the handle, a pulse of energy rippled through my body, like stepping through a waterfall of static.

When I stepped inside, I found myself in a world that looked too delicious to be real.

Houses made of biscuits and candy stood tall, their rooftops dripping with caramel. A river of rainbow-colored syrup flowed gently under bridges made of waffles, and trees bore lollipops instead of leaves. The air smelled of chocolate and vanilla, and I felt like I had stumbled into a dream. My stomach growled, and I couldn’t resist.

I reached out, cracking off a piece of a house’s sugar-coated wall and popping it into my mouth. It melted on my tongue—sweet, buttery, perfect. Encouraged, I tore off another chunk, then another. The chocolate windows shattered under my fingers, and the candy cane beams crunched as I devoured them. It was the most delicious thing I had ever tasted.

I was too distracted by my feast to notice the tiny eyes peeking at me from the shadows.

Then, I heard a high-pitched scream. A chorus of tiny voices rose in alarm. That’s when I realized—this wasn’t just a world of food. It was a world of people.

I had destroyed their home.

Stepping back, I looked down and saw them—tiny humans, no bigger than my thumb, dressed in gumdrop hats and marshmallow coats. Their eyes were filled with terror as they scurried into hiding. To them, I was a giant, a monster who had come to wreak havoc.

Panic spread through the candy village. I saw them gathering in groups, whispering frantically. Then, they started arming themselves. Peppermint spears, jellybean slingshots, and liquorice ropes were handed out. A small but fierce army was forming, their fear turning into anger.

I tried to explain, but my voice boomed over them like thunder. “I—I didn’t know! I’m sorry!”

But it was too late.

The first attack came in the form of a syrup catapult, sending a sticky wave crashing over me. Gummy vines wrapped around my ankles, making it harder to move. A swarm of tiny warriors leaped onto me, pelting me with hardened caramel stones.

I ran.

Dodging through candy trees and leaping over chocolate fountains, I could hear them close behind, their battle cries echoing. Every step I took seemed to anger them more. I reached for the door—where was it? It had been right behind me when I arrived!

Then I saw it, half-sunken in a pool of whipped cream. With one last desperate leap, I grabbed the handle and yanked it open. The moment I crossed the threshold, the sounds of the candy world vanished.

I was back in the school basement, covered in syrup and crumbs. The wooden door was gone, as if it had never existed.

I took a deep breath, my heart still pounding. I had barely escaped.

The next day, I ran back to the storage room, my heart pounding. I shoved aside the old boards and models, searching frantically. But the door wasn’t there. The space where it had been was just a plain wall. Is it a dream? Just when I'm thinking, I found a single gumdrop in my pocket...
